Those who know me well know that fashion has always been near and dear to my heart. If given a few too many beverages it's a coin flip whether I'll start rapping Notorious B.I.G's "Another" (don't look up the lyrics) or I'll tell you that my senior superlative was best dressed. Although my photography business is primarily focused on maternity, birth, babes and family, I always try to thread my roots throughout my work to ensure my final product is indicative of my style. When I was asked to shoot an event for Neiman Marcus I was psyched. Not only is Neiman's a great brand, but the Cusp store is like this little, fantastic slice of all things trendy, peppered with classic, coveted pieces. It's actually the perfect place for me to be shopping as I'm stuck in this weird, mom zone. A few go-to pieces can totally transform your wardrobe and your mojo. I'm thinking after I do a winter purge, I should get on that.
Have you heard of Jen Mussari? For those of you who don't know, she's an uber talented illustrator and lettering artist, making all things "super fresh." I bet if you click through to her site you'll recognize her work, I know I did. Neiman's had hired Jen to create custom lettering or embroidery on anything that was purchased in their store. YSL clutches, capes, wallets and more were adorned with her talent. I was torn between shooting and shopping, so that I could snap up a piece of her amazingness. I refrained from the latter and got to business capturing the event. Can you imagine painting on someone's YSL clutch with about 15 people hovering over you, taking photos of you?! I, for one, would be sweating through my shirt, no question. Jen was amazing. She was cool, calm and collected and only once did I see her breathe a sigh of relief when she finished. I'm still in awe of her talent. Oh, and I really did want just about everything in Neiman's Cusp shop. Prices were just low enough that they were flirting with an impulse buy. In my next life I'll spring for the Chanel espadrilles with a heel monogram. Until then, check out the amazing talent of Jen Mussari.
